About Urbcast - a podcast about cities (podcast o miastach)

Urbcast is an urbanism podcast built around the question of how cities actually work. It is bilingual, moving between Polish and English depending on the episode and guest. The show’s center of gravity is city making: planning, architecture, housing, mobility, greenery, public policy, and the social pressures that appear when housing becomes too expensive. Recent episodes show a wide field of view. Singapore becomes a case study in deliberate city-state planning, with attention to Krystyn Olszewski and the international expertise that helped shape its spatial development. Housing is treated not just as a market problem but as a systemic and political risk. That theme returns across conversations about Europe, Warsaw, public housing, employee housing, and the difference between homes built for residents and units built mainly as assets. The show is at its best when it keeps theory close to examples. Katowice, Dublin, Copenhagen, New York, Warsaw, Paris, Oslo, Vietnam, and Singapore are used as working reference points rather than travel decoration. Some episodes are interviews with architects, writers, planners, researchers, and city advocates. Others are solo reflections, such as an urbanist reading of Vietnam’s scooters, street chaos, smog, density, and informal rules of movement. The register is informed but accessible. It assumes that public assets, planning regulations, noise enforcement, greenery, and affordability deserve careful discussion. It also has a personal urbanist thread, especially around Copenhagen and Warsaw, where affection for a city does not prevent criticism of what is missing. Gentrification, public wealth, tree cover, street safety, and municipal capacity recur as practical problems. Urbcast is not a quick-tips city show. It is slower, more reflective, and often bookish. Its appeal lies in the way it connects ambitious urban ideas to real streets, public agencies, housing blocks, boulevards, scooters, and the unresolved compromises of modern city life.

Made for: For listeners interested in city planning, architecture, housing politics, sustainable mobility, and the everyday mechanics of urban life. It fits people who like international examples but still want concrete policy detail.

What sets it apart: Urbcast stands out through its bilingual Polish-English range and its habit of connecting global urban debates to specific places, from Warsaw housing questions to Singapore’s planning history and Vietnam’s scooter streets.

Why you'd press play

Acoustic speed cameras become dinner-table material when your city-policy curiosity has nowhere sensible left to go.

Press play if you want

  • a Warsaw noise complaint to end with microphones, cameras, and New York as practical homework
  • housing discussed as a political system, not another lecture about budgeting harder
