About Unclaimed Bands
Unclaimed Bands is a long-running independent music interview show centered on artists who are still building their audience. The format is direct. A band or solo musician comes on, a song gets played, and the conversation opens from there. Recent episodes feature guests talking through blues, rock, roots music, punk-adjacent scenes, brass-heavy bands, acoustic work, and records with an older pull. The show is not polished into smooth radio language. It keeps the interruptions, jokes, tangents, and practical shop talk that happen when musicians are speaking with people who actually care about small-stage music. Sean, Amanda Mayhem, Rich, Fritz, Rock, and Mike appear across the excerpts as part of the Unclaimed Bands orbit, giving the show a loose ensemble feel. The interviews often start with introductions and instruments, then widen into scenes and survival. One city gets discussed as more than country, with blues, Americana, roots music, and rock all part of the picture. Another comes up as a place with dense, specific pockets of bands and fans. Live-event episodes appear through venue conversations. Pandemic disruption is a recurring shadow, especially in the return episode and home-recorded conversations. The show is interested in how musicians adapt. Guests talk about streaming performances, physical records, vinyl costs, cassette memories, band maturity, money, management, parenting, day jobs, and the practical value of supportive families. There is plenty of humor. Some of it is blunt, and some of it lands like friends trying to keep a room awake between songs. Underneath that looseness is a clear editorial function: artists get to explain what they sound like, what they are trying to make, and why their current project matters. Unclaimed Bands works best for discovery-minded listeners who like rough edges, regional scenes, and interviews that treat unsigned or independent musicians as working artists rather than content.
Made for: Suited to listeners who hunt for independent bands, regional scenes, and artist stories before they break wider. It is especially strong for people who enjoy informal interviews with plenty of musician shop talk.
What sets it apart: The show gives artists space to choose songs and explain their work in casual, minimally polished conversations. Its value is the mix of music discovery, venue-level realism, and personality that rarely survives a formal promo interview.
In their own words
Unclaimed bands is a chance for original bands to get heard. It's that simple. We conduct an interview with the band and we play a song of their's, that they choose. no Radio producer, pushing a manufactured hit. The artists telling us in their own words about their song. Along the way we hope to bring their music to a greater audience and give you the fans a chance to hear "what they sound like.."
Why you'd press play
A band hands you a song, then Sean asks what keeps the next one alive.
