About The Robbie Bourke Podcast
The Robbie Bourke Podcast is built for long, technical conversations about how bodies adapt, move, recover, and perform. It lives in strength and conditioning, functional health, rehabilitation, and human performance, but recent episodes show a wider curiosity than a standard coaching show. One week may focus on maximal aerobic speed, extensive tempo work, aerobic and alactic development, and the practical compromises of training large squads. Another may turn toward circadian biology, eye health, indoor lighting, sunscreen, sunglasses, and the way light exposure shapes broader physiology. The tone is informal, but the subject matter is rarely casual. Guests are given time to define their systems, trace their influences, and explain what actually changes their decisions in practice. Tim Kettering’s appearance centers energy system development for athletes, including assessment, prescription, hybrid subtypes, and supplements. Donie Fox’s episode moves through return to performance, manual therapy, coaching philosophy, and the challenge of making rehab clear without making it simplistic. Kevin Mulcahy’s coaching-year review brings ecological dynamics, constraints-led coaching, decision making, practice design, and youth training into the frame. The Pat Davidson episodes are especially dense, following A Coach’s Guide to Optimizing Movement through movement quality, quantity, standardization, progression, strategy, muscular orientation, muscular action, variability, archetypes, asymmetry, and related principles. The solo circadian episode has a different texture. It uses college physiology work to talk through melatonin, mitochondrial function, appetite regulation, insulin sensitivity, screen exposure, and metabolic syndrome. The show often feels like a conversation between practitioners who are still refining their models in public. There is room for uncertainty. There is also a clear preference for evidence, coaching experience, and practical examples over tidy slogans. Listeners hear analogies from the gym, references to field sport constraints, and plenty of attention to dosage, adaptation, and context. The episodes can run long and get granular. That is part of the appeal. The show suits people who want to understand the reasoning beneath programming, rehab, movement coaching, and health behavior, not just receive a list of tips.
Made for: For strength coaches, physiotherapists, athletic development coaches, rehab practitioners, and serious health listeners who enjoy detailed reasoning. It best suits people comfortable with physiology, training terminology, and long-form practitioner conversations.
What sets it apart: The show stands apart by treating performance, rehab, and circadian health as connected systems rather than separate niches. Its strongest episodes let practitioners explain the principles, constraints, and tradeoffs behind their work in depth.
