Sulha - Israel, Palestine & Beyond.

Sulha is a live-streamed talk show about Israel and Palestine, and it makes no attempt to hide the fact. Episodes open with the host announcing that the stream is live and greeting whoever has joined. They close just as informally, with an invitation to carry on over Discord and a sign-off from the Galilee addressed to 'the beautiful land of Israel and Palestine'. That phrase names both places in one breath, and it says a good deal about the show's outlook. Three kinds of episode stand out. The first is the open call-in. In 'Israel Palestine Call in Show - new anti-Netanyahu protests, settler violence & more.', the host explains that the new protests turn on who should investigate the failures of October 7th, then moves on to settlement expansion. The discussion stays practical. It asks how the cost of each dunam taken from Palestinians could be raised, stops to compare the unit to an acre, and calls armed retaliation a losing game of chicken against a much stronger power. Only the international community, the host argues, can impose that cost. The second kind responds to events that are still in motion. On day five of the war with Iran, the host scoffs at the operation's name, sets out to sort through the competing justifications, and rejects the idea that the war is being fought for ordinary Iranians. Anyone making that case, the host suggests, should be asked whether they would also back regime change in North Korea. A ceasefire stream begins with relief that thousands have been reunited with loved ones and quickly turns cautious. Both sides have already broken the terms, the host says, and a participant pushes back hard on who is to blame. The third kind is the debate, where Sulha is most distinctive. Dani Eshed, who identifies as anti-Zionist, faces a host who identifies as non-Zionist. The host notes up front that the two positions together reflect a small share of Jewish Israelis, and says the two are ultimately on the same team. One exchange argues that Jewish safety can sit alongside Palestinian heritage in a state with more than one cultural symbol on its flag. In another episode, billed as three Israelis debating from Zionist, anti-Zionist and non-Zionist positions, Dani argues for a single state over two states or a federation. The arguments are pointed. The goodbyes are warm.
