Oslo culture talk, gloriously off the rails.
The gist
Skumma Kultur treats culture as anything worth arguing about before lunch: food tubes, flag days, Facebook Reels, concerts, algorithms, Oslo restaurants, and suspect internet punchlines. The result is fast Norwegian radio comedy with a cultural agenda, but no patience for walking there in a straight line.

About Skumma Kultur
Skumma Kultur is culture radio with its shoelaces untied. It comes from Radio Nova, but it behaves less like a formal magazine show than a panel trying to keep the hour from catching fire. The subject is culture in the widest, most elastic sense. That means concerts, food, films, books, TV series, algorithms, Oslo plans, birthday dread, flag etiquette, and the social meaning of frozen dumplings can all count. The show moves quickly. A normal question rarely stays normal for long. A birthday quiz turns into an argument about whether birthdays are worth celebrating at all. A discussion of online punchlines opens into a sharper thought about satire, numbness, and why terrible names become casual jokes. A food special starts with the need for a missing food program and ends up inventing crime-show logic around couscous. Skumma Kultur is often silly, but it is not empty. The comedy comes from treating tiny cultural details as if they reveal everything. The panel will seriously weigh Oslo sightseeing, Disney Channel-sounding names, Norwegian geography outside Oslo, trap aesthetics, physical media, and the moral status of brain-rot clips. Then someone will derail the point, and the derailment becomes the point. The show works best when everyone is half agreeing, half objecting, and fully committed to whatever strange premise has appeared. Its Norwegian base is peppered with English, internet phrasing, jingles, and station fragments, giving it the texture of young local radio rather than clean studio podcasting. It can be warm. It can be blunt. It can also be happily unreasonable about pop culture, which is part of the appeal. For PlayNext, Skumma Kultur sits closest to Norwegian radio comedy and satire, but the real category is messy cultural companionship: a weekday room where low-stakes opinions become urgent, and urgent topics are allowed to enter through a joke.
Made for: For listeners who enjoy fast Norwegian panel banter, local Oslo references, pop culture arguments, and comedy that turns ordinary annoyances into full studio events. Best for people who like keeping up rather than being gently guided.
What sets it apart: Skumma Kultur treats culture as both serious material and disposable nonsense, often in the same breath. Its edge is the panel's speed: jokes, corrections, jingles, and actual cultural judgment all arrive before the thought has fully parked.
In their own words
