RETROKOMPOTT

RETROKOMPOTT feels like an open chair at a German retro-computing table. It is built around the Stammtisch format, where members of the Retro Kompott team, listeners, and fans gather for loose weekly talk about the hobby. The first impression is not polish. It is presence. People greet each other, check whether audio is working, drift into a topic, lose the thread for a moment, and then find it again through shared memory. That looseness gives the show its shape. Retro home computers, old consoles, games, hardware upgrades, and museum work are the core materials, but the conversation regularly takes the scenic route. An episode can spend time on WordPress because someone has been dealing with login attempts, plugins, hosting bills, and the practical annoyances of keeping a site alive. Another can lean into the modern console landscape, comparing Sony, Microsoft, Xbox, Game Pass, PC gaming, Steam, and the way indie titles sometimes feel more exciting than the big platforms. The show is strongest when it gets concrete. Amiga talk brings up the A6000, the V4, FPGA components, monitor compatibility, old-machine aging problems, and the uncomfortable price tags attached to new retro hardware. Game talk can move from PlayStation and Halo to Port Royal, also discussed through its German title Handler der Karibik, with real attention to how its cards, money, ships, and push-your-luck decisions actually work. The table also makes room for physical spaces. One episode captures the practical detail of a museum opening, including rooms, corridors, toilets, emergency exits, and the kind of planning that turns a collection into a place people can visit. The tone is warm without being slick. Nobody seems eager to turn the subject into a lecture. Details arrive as anecdotes, corrections, and side references. That means the show rewards patience. It is for listeners who enjoy retro culture as conversation, not as a ranked list or a tightly produced history lesson. The audio can vary because the format allows many people to participate with different setups. The opinions are plainly subjective. That is also the point: RETROKOMPOTT preserves the hobby as people actually talk about it, with curiosity, memory, technical fussing, and plenty of friendly digression.
