Radio RFSL

Radio RFSL is a Malmö-based queer culture and community program with the feel of a live radio hour preserved as a podcast. It is direct and unhurried. The show moves between studio conversation, field-style reporting, arts criticism, music, and event listings without pretending those worlds are separate. One episode can feature Malmö Pride, a dance work about local LGBTQ history, summer-stage tips, and a P4 documentary about lady imitators. Another can shift from Transgender Day of Visibility to an anti-racist conversation group, then into migration-policy protest voices and RFSL legal analysis. That range is the point. Radio RFSL treats queer life as social, artistic, political, and practical all at once. The tone is friendly, but it does not flatten serious subjects. Guests such as Maria Dexborg, Dan Andersson, Johan, Alexander, Yaël, Thomas, Daniel, Gwyn, and Sebas Martín are invited to explain projects in their own words, while the studio voices keep listeners oriented with plain summaries and next-step details. Arts coverage is especially strong. Reviews of Viva Frida Kahlo, Quislings Sista Dagar, theatre, opera, and queer historical work are woven into broader questions about memory, morality, censorship, community, and representation. The show also has a useful local-service streak. It names venues, times, ticket situations, social pages, and ways to support mutual aid. Music choices carry personality, from Aretha Franklin and David Bowie to queer pop and protest songs. The pacing can be loose. That looseness gives the program its community-radio texture: listeners hear people thinking aloud, clarifying, repeating, and connecting one item to the next. For anyone trying to understand Malmö’s queer cultural calendar and its political weather, Radio RFSL offers a grounded, human map.
