Free radio with records still spinning.
The gist
Pi Radio gathers a sprawl of music-led free-radio programs from Berlin and Brandenburg, moving from experimental releases to Ghana records, blues, ragtime, hip-hop, and strange archive fragments. The mood is informal and hands-on, with presenters correcting themselves, chasing tangents, and letting the records steer the room.

About Pi Radio
Pi Radio is a free-radio patchwork from Berlin and Brandenburg, built around music, handmade presentation, and the unruly charm of people talking their way through records in real time. It is not one neat format. It behaves more like a shelf of programs sharing a transmitter, a studio, and a taste for the overlooked. Some hours are dense with experimental music. Brainwashed Radio moves briskly through new singles, reissues, labels, tour notes, film-scoring names, tribute records, and long-running underground references, treating obscure release information as part of the pleasure rather than homework. Then the room changes. Teenage Dance Party brings in Ghana and Sierra Leone records, with Slow Pete, DJ Zoom, and Jens sorting through artists, labels, pronunciations, and the happy trouble of playing music whose context is only partly within reach. The energy is loose and funny. Nobody hides the uncertainty. Other episodes lean into Pi Radio’s stranger edges: Yemen-focused music and political history, absurd local-radio pageantry, oddball cover versions, sidewalk-rescued vinyl, blues, boogie-woogie, ragtime, hip-hop passages, Velvet Underground promos, Rodriguez, and spaceflight audio drifting through the night. A brief archive compilation may be almost skeletal. A conversation about food, fasting, nuts, stomach aches, and old jazz players may wander until it suddenly lands on a record. That unevenness is the point. Pi Radio preserves the sensation of community radio as an active room, not a finished product. The presenters interrupt themselves, correct themselves, laugh at the machinery, and occasionally sound as if the next track has arrived just in time to save the thought. The show suits listeners who want music discovery with personality attached: label notes, side comments, record-bin archaeology, local texture, and arguments with the playlist. It can be chaotic. It can be surprisingly tender. At its best, Pi Radio makes deep listening feel social, accidental, and alive.
Made for: For listeners who like underground music discovery, Berlin-Brandenburg free-radio texture, record stories, experimental detours, and presenters who leave the human mess in the broadcast.
What sets it apart: Pi Radio stands apart by letting many small program identities coexist under one signal, from meticulous experimental release notes to chaotic guest-led record sessions and archive fragments. The result feels curated by obsession rather than format.
