Oknytt

Oknytt is a Swedish show about the mysterious, strange, and macabre, but its real engine is the conversation around the case. The format sounds crowded in the best sense. A speaker starts laying out a murder, a haunting, or a historical oddity, and the table immediately begins tugging at the details. Someone catches a name. Someone makes a sideways reference. Someone laughs at the absurdity before the story turns dark again. Recent episodes show how wide the show lets its material stretch. The Alex Murdaugh coverage follows dynasty, family protection, suspicious deaths, and the way privilege can become a permanent escape route. The Michael Malloy episode plays like a grotesque survival farce, with guests reacting as the failed murder attempts get more unbelievable. The Epworth and Seaford poltergeist episodes work differently, building suspense from household noises, stairs, bottle caps, police notes, investigators, and the bureaucratic comedy of trying to file a haunting as a case. The Christmas-calendar episodes add another mode: old Swedish crime, strange local books, festive chaos, and board-game trivia with Erik Moberg. Oknytt is not trying to sound solemn. It can be rude, silly, distracted, and gleefully specific. That looseness is part of the texture. A discussion of a drowning or a family death may sit beside jokes about British comedy, Tolkien, Doctor Who, or a ridiculous cat name. The show’s sharper trick is that the facts still matter. Dates, places, names, and quoted case details keep the banter from floating away. It is a true-crime and folklore hangout for listeners who want the story, but also want the immediate, noisy reaction to the story. The result feels less like a finished lecture than a long night where the weirdest person at the table brought notes.
