About Happy Healthy Caregiver
Happy Healthy Caregiver approaches caregiving from inside the daily strain, where love, logistics, exhaustion, and identity all collide. Elizabeth Miller hosts conversations with people who have cared for parents, spouses, siblings, and other loved ones through dementia, autism, aging, disability, serious illness, and end-of-life change. The show does not frame caregiving as a neat checklist. It treats it as a long, shifting life chapter. Episodes move from intimate grief to highly practical choices, often in the same conversation. Rosanne Corcoran reflects on early grief, community, and the courage it takes to accept help. Betsy Hicks-Russ talks about helping someone feel good in their body, with food, routine, and acceptance sitting alongside autism and family life. Brendan Kelso connects caregiving with therapeutic writing, humor, Shakespeare, and the strange imaginative doorways that open when a loved one has Alzheimer's. Kathy Stein speaks about advocacy, family support, autism community, decline, loss, and brain donation for research. Dr. Maggie Kang describes letting go of the old normal and using intention, food, visual reminders, and mindset practice to keep moving. Jeanette Yates brings guilt and boundaries into sharper focus, especially the way guilt can make self-care advice feel too shallow. Eric Levitan links caregiving with healthy aging, falls, strength, travel constraints, and the difficulty of helping from a distance. Nancy Treaster talks about dementia care, part-time help, mission, purpose, travel, exercise, and life after a husband’s death. Across the episodes, the emotional register is candid but steady. The show makes room for tears without living only in sorrow. It also makes room for systems: home providers, family networks, community, medical uncertainty, movement, meals, and time away. Its best moments come when a guest names something caregivers often hide, such as resentment, guilt, loneliness, or the fear that accepting support means failing. Happy Healthy Caregiver suits listeners who need language for what caregiving is doing to their lives, plus concrete examples of how other people have stayed intact inside it.
Made for: For family caregivers balancing care with work, parenting, health needs, grief, and ordinary life. It also suits former caregivers processing what changed after the caregiving role ended.
What sets it apart: The show pairs emotional honesty with practical lived detail, using caregiver stories to surface support systems, boundaries, purpose, food, movement, and grief without turning them into quick fixes.
