In their own words

Fermynwoods Contemporary Art is an educational charity and arts organisation that supports life through art. We commission innovative and meaningful ways for visual artists to engage with audiences, in public spaces across Northamptonshire and online. Our podcast is an experimental space for the display and creation of contemporary art which is fully accessible from people's homes, featuring original sound art, artist discussions, audio essays, video content and more.

As heard by us

Based on 6 episodes we listened to · September 2026

Artist conversations connect contemporary art's conceptual language to the materials, sounds, environments, and practical choices from which the work emerges.

Fermynwoods Contemporary Art Podcast gives artists room to explain how materials, places, and ideas become finished work, often pairing discussion with commissioned sound art.

Fermynwoods Podcast 21 - A Ton of WormsOct 12, 2023

An English yew sound work that blends field recordings, craft, and decay.

A Ton of Worms is a multidisciplinary sound work built around the English yew. It moves through field recordings, whittling, fermentation, propagation, and a performance made on the summer solstice of 2023.

Fermynwoods Podcast 19 – Maja ZećoApr 22, 2023

Silence becomes social, lonely, and quietly revealing in a performance that changes how a body is read.

Maya Zeicho's Silencer sits at the center of a conversation about a sensory-impairment soundwalking suit that moves through woodland and Corby Town Center, where silence reshapes how body, gender, and voice are read in public.

Fermynwoods Podcast 18 - Danny Treacy & Johannes ZitsFeb 17, 2023

A woodland art conversation that keeps site, process, and social use in close view.

The episode stays in the woodland setting as Marie Chantal Hamrock speaks with Danny Tracy and Johannes Sitz about Tree Wilder, with its site-responsive interventions, sculptures, and video for Barnwell Park.

Fermynwoods Podcast 27 - Beccy Mccray & Jason Singh

Climate, sound, and AI meet in a conversation that stays thoughtful and human.

Furman Woods' contemporary art podcast sits where climate-minded practice, sound art, and AI overlap. Becky McRae and Jason Singh bring different angles to the same question: how art moves between activism, voice, and the natural world.

Fermynwoods Podcast 29 – Adrienne Murray

A reflective sound piece that treats listening as an embodied encounter with light, otherness, and a faint uncanny edge.

Adrienne Murray's Ear for the Other is a reflective, luminous piece that stays attentive to light, everyday sound, and the body moving through space.

Fermynwoods Podcast 28 – Sarah Long

A reflective art conversation where myth, womanhood, and autofiction keep folding into one another.

Sarah Long's conversation is a thoughtful art talk about myth, womanhood, and the body as landscape. Marie-Chantal Hamrock keeps it moving through painting, performance, nationhood, suppressed female archetypes, and Mother Ireland, with the body pushed against the old male gaze.

Fermynwoods Podcast 26 – David John Scarborough

A patient conversation that connects grief, fatherhood, and myth-making into one reflective whole.

David John Scarborough's conversation moves through grief, fatherhood, ecological collapse, and the shared language of folk traditions and myth-making.

Fermynwoods Podcast 24 – Subterra

A final-episode art radio play where industry and landscape press against each other.

The final episode stays in a hard material world of ironstone, blast furnaces, black dust, and loss. A radio play frame carries the story through a narrator and a strange little cast, which keeps it rooted in place instead of letting it drift into abstraction.
