Eating Salads

Eating Salads sounds simple at first: another day, another salad. Then the frame immediately stretches. Austin Crosby uses salad as the day's anchor, but the episodes are really compact domestic dispatches where food, movies, chores, money, weather, and personal irritation all end up in the same bowl. A fruit salad shares space with shovels, mulch, new trees, pepperoni pizza, and Clive Barker's Underworld. A potato salad with chickpeas becomes part of a walk recap. A disliked mix of garbanzo beans, green peas, and green beans gets outshone by pistachio buns, mashed potatoes, orange chicken, and snow on new native plants. The show is funny in a low-pressure, cumulative way. It notices everything. Back pain matters. So does tree pruning. So does whether a local sandwich place's potato salad costs twice as much as the coleslaw. Austin's episodes often move like thought itself: a practical observation, a food note, a minor complaint, a pop-culture association, then a sudden detour into cars, rent, public transportation, or ratings boards. Casey is a frequent presence in that rhythm, appearing through meals, walks, gardening, and small household moments rather than formal segments. The movie talk is especially vivid. The Addams Family, Alien, Species, The Revenant, H.R. Giger, Jodorowsky, and 4K Blu-ray collecting all become part of the same casual archive. Nothing is treated as too minor to mention. That is the point. Eating Salads turns daily repetition into texture, finding comedy in the way ordinary life refuses to stay neatly categorized. It is not a conventional food podcast, even when the salads are actually reviewed. It is closer to a running diary with crunchy vegetables, cult media, seasonal chores, and a lot of side calculations. The best moments come when a simple meal opens into an oddly precise worldview. Salad is the ritual. The drift is the show.
