Real critical care reasoning, case by case.
The gist
Critical Care Scenarios is a clinical education show built around cases, expert conversations, and the messy details behind real-world practice. It favors practical reasoning over tidy rules, moving from sepsis guidelines and autoimmune encephalitis testing to nebulizers, insulin, RV failure, and rapid responses.

About Critical Care Scenarios
Critical Care Scenarios is a practical critical care education show for clinicians who live around sick patients, uncertain data, and high-stakes decisions. Its episodes use clinical cases, narrative setup, and guest conversations to show how critical care reasoning works in motion. The show gets technical quickly. That is part of the appeal. A discussion of autoimmune encephalitis testing does not stop at naming the condition; it works through antibody panels, serum and CSF choices, plasma exchange, IVIG, false positives, and the timing problems that make interpretation harder. A sepsis guidelines episode looks at how recommendations are built, from evidence synthesis and prioritized outcomes to cost, equity, feasibility, acceptability, and strength of recommendation. Bedside episodes stay grounded in what clinicians actually do when the room gets tense. Running a rapid response becomes a lesson in attitude, team dynamics, ABGs, chest x-rays, ultrasound, flash pulmonary edema, and knowing when to treat before the full diagnosis is nailed down. Insulin is treated with similar pragmatism: targets matter, but so do instability, feeding status, stress physiology, competing priorities, and the difference between one high value and a persistent pattern. Nebulizers become less routine once the show gets into dose, volume, treatment time, device differences, and the communication gap between orders and delivery. The format is conversational and informal, sometimes joking around before narrowing into clinical detail. It does not pretend critical care is cleaner than it is. The recurring lesson is that protocols help, but context decides how they are used. Guests are brought in for specialized angles, while the regular voices keep asking how a decision plays out at the bedside. The show also keeps its boundaries clear, repeatedly framing the material as general education rather than medical advice. It is best for physicians, APPs, nurses, respiratory therapists, learners, and critical care-adjacent clinicians who want a sharper practical feel for critical care. The differentiating strength is its willingness to connect physiology, evidence, workflow, and human factors in the same conversation. It teaches by making clinical judgment audible.
Made for: Critical care clinicians, emergency medicine clinicians, APPs, nurses, respiratory therapists, and learners who want practical critical care education with enough nuance to match bedside reality.
What sets it apart: The show links case-based storytelling with granular practice details, moving from evidence and guidelines to orders, devices, timing, team behavior, and interpretation traps.
In their own words
An educational podcast presenting practical critical care scenarios. By Brandon Oto, PA-C and Bryan Boling, ACNP. New episodes weekly.
Why you'd press play
