Considera l’armadillo

Considera l’armadillo is an interview-led Italian radio show about the complicated cohabitation of humans and other animals. It works from the premise that animal stories are never only sentimental. They are also legal, ecological, political, scientific, and cultural. The show can begin with a small live observation, such as peregrine falcons nesting on the Pirellone, then turn toward a larger question about protection, public attention, or responsibility. Its pace is brisk. Cecilia Di Lieto often pushes guests to translate technical points into plain language, whether the subject is mitochondrial DNA in cetaceans, warming waters in the Mediterranean, or artificial intelligence used to monitor fish species. The result is advocacy with evidence attached. Episodes move from lead in ammunition to wolf mortality, from online animal mistreatment to kennel adoptions, from Stromboli cat sterilization work to municipal bans on selling live animals at weekly markets. The show is sympathetic, but it is not soft. It treats cruelty, neglect, illegal trade, and careless policy as problems that deserve names, records, and action. Guests are allowed to speak at length, especially when they can clarify what the law permits, what research shows, or what rescuers are seeing on the ground. The conversation often loops back over a point so it lands. That repetition can feel urgent rather than polished. It suits a listener who wants animal welfare coverage grounded in daily news, local campaigns, and the practical work of people trying to intervene. It also suits anyone interested in biodiversity without separating science from ethics. The show’s distinct strength is its refusal to isolate animals from the systems around them. A falcon nest, a wolf killing, a cat colony, a marine dataset, and a welfare regulation all become part of the same public argument: coexistence has consequences, and those consequences can be measured, contested, and changed.
