Animal Party - Dog & Cat News, Animal Facts

Animal Party is a pet-and-animal show with one foot in the living room and the other in the wider animal world. Its best material starts small. A listener wants to stop showing empty hands to a food-obsessed dog, and the answer becomes a practical evening routine built around commands, attention, timing, and clear food cues. Another dog lies down every time it greets other dogs, and that opens into body language, impulse, and how a person can reshape a greeting before it turns into a problem. The show likes a usable trick. Teach a cat to target a hand. Teach a dog to go find treats, balls, or chanterelles. Keep extra balls ready for the dog who turns fetch into keep-away. These are not abstract pet-care lectures. They are little scripts for the floor, the park, the yard, and the couch. Then the show swings outward. Episodes touch whale songs decoded with AI, cuttlefish and animal intelligence, invasive mussels, dog hair as garden fertilizer, leatherback turtles near Haida Gwaii, bear encounters, flea products, vaccine rumors, and pets in the news. The pace is brisk and sometimes messy, with ads and network business passing through the feed, but the core appeal is the same: lively animal curiosity tied to direct advice. Guest conversations can add a more explanatory shape, especially when Dr. Stan Korn talks through dog cognition, border collie traits, aging, vision loss, and why leashing a dog to a person can settle behavior or speed house training. The show is opinionated without becoming cold. It can be funny about humans, blunt about bad assumptions, and affectionate toward animals in the same stretch. The recurring message is simple: look harder at what the animal is actually doing, then change the human routine around it. That makes Animal Party useful for pet owners who enjoy news, trivia, behavior talk, and the occasional strange detour, as long as the advice comes back to something they can try at home.
