About Alte Schule

Alte Schule is a German conversation show about cars, racing, and the people who remember how both actually worked. It favors lived detail over polished myth. The format is simple: a knowledgeable interviewer opens the door, then lets guests carry long stretches of biography, technical memory, and racing story. That makes the show feel less like a lecture and more like a table conversation after a race weekend. Recent episodes show the range. Martin Marx talks through the path from race engineering to HWA leadership, with the tension between European racetracks, Pebble Beach presentation culture, DTM budgets, Formula 2, Formula 3, and the business of keeping cars on track. Dr. Thomas Bscher’s McLaren F1 episode has a different shine. It is about a dream car, but also about road manners, public reaction, Ferrari comparisons, the P1, the SF90, and why some machines become friendlier in memory than their numbers suggest. Uwe Mahla brings the press-room angle. His stories move through Rally Racing, BMW motorsport communication, Formula 1, Le Mans, Paul Newman, Rolf Stommelen, sponsors, workshops, and the strange practical problem of getting the story at all. Jörg Bergmeister’s episode brings the Porsche thread forward, from family racing roots and the 911 to Daytona, Sebring, Le Mans, American travel, team discipline, and GT model development. Christoph Flittner changes the scale without leaving the car world. His driving-school stories are funny, blunt, and surprisingly revealing about how cars, learners, traffic rules, and basic mechanical knowledge have changed. Alte Schule works because it does not flatten these lives into hero copy. It lets mechanics, economics, personality, memory, and the occasional absurd scene sit next to each other. For listeners who know the names, there is plenty to catch. For listeners who simply like cars and good stories, the show makes the reference points feel close enough to follow.

Made for: For German-speaking listeners who care about classic cars, motorsport history, endurance racing, Porsche, McLaren, BMW, HWA, and the people behind the machinery. It also suits anyone who enjoys long, anecdotal interviews with practical detail.

What sets it apart: Alte Schule stands out by letting guests build the history through first-hand scenes rather than tidy summaries. The conversations move easily between famous cars, race weekends, budgets, workshops, communications crises, and everyday driving culture.
