96.5 WKLH

96.5 WKLH collects segments from Milwaukee’s Hometown Morning Show, where Dave Coombs, Doreen, and Marcus build comedy out of everyday local texture. The show is fast, casual, and conversational. It does not sit on one subject for long, but it usually leaves a trail of useful names, places, and reactions behind it. A city cleanup item about clogged storm drains becomes a reminder that litter and heavy rain eventually meet in the same grate. A short item about AI chatbots and medical exams turns into a wary discussion about doctors, grades, and trust. Doreen’s discovery segments give the feed its field-trip energy. She tries a Smash Swing golf simulator at the River Club in Mequon, celebrates a huge virtual drive, then admits the tiny one that better describes her actual golf game. Listener input is a major engine. The inbox sends the crew into food pronunciation, Cuban-style yucca, sirens, and the hidden geography of Milwaukee-area names such as Gerke’s Corners, Carrollville, Garden District, and Town of Lake. The oddball-report segments are sharper. Police scanner items and strange public behavior are played for quick jokes, with the crew leaning into a blunt Wisconsin sense of humor. The show also likes generational habits and low-stakes arguments. Deja vu, premonition stories, invisible passenger-side braking, car dome-light myths, and fading teen trends all become material. Retro gaming appears through the Midwest Gaming Classic, with Andy Nelson tracing its path from Atari Jaguar enthusiasts and Jagfest roots to a larger Milwaukee event. There is also a recurring local-pride streak. Even when the subject is chicken nuggets, mahjong, cribbage boards, or a children’s book about construction, the conversation keeps circling back to people who send messages, show up, build things, or remember old names for familiar roads. The result is not a polished interview show. It is clipped morning radio with a strong Milwaukee accent, shaped by running bits, local memory, and the easy timing of people who talk to the same audience.
