·19 min·1 clip

Ursula Kemp's eight-year-old son Thomas was brought to court to testify against his mother, describing her animal familiars in detail.

The hosts tell the story of Ursula Kemp, a 16th-century English widow, mother, and 'cunning woman' who was accused of witchcraft by her neighbors, confessed to having animal familiars, and was ultimately executed. The episode also explores the strange 20th-century discovery and misidentification of skeletons claimed to be hers, and reflects on her legacy as a marginalized healer.
