WHBY anchor Landon Moore reports from the Omni Glass and Paint News Center at 5:04 AM with 43-degree temperatures. The Menasha Joint School District referendum passed Tuesday, allowing the district to exceed the state revenue cap by $6 million annually for six years. Superintendent Matt Zimmerman noted the district had already closed two elementary schools and cut 39 full-time positions over four years, and the referendum prevents further damaging cuts. The referendum passed narrowly, by only 252 votes. In Hortonville, a village board race tied at 356 votes each between Sean McKeel and Dalton Davis, and Wisconsin state statute allows such ties to be settled by a game of chance. The coin was flipped, Davis was assigned tails, tails came up, and Davis won the seat. Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrick was cleared of criminal charges related to his installation of hidden recording devices in City Hall in 2021. Fond du Lac County DA Eric Toney found the cameras did not constitute a privacy violation after a West Allis Police investigation. The cameras had been removed by court order in 2023. A drug trafficking investigation led to FBI and Brown County Drug Task Force raiding 10 Green Bay residences simultaneously Wednesday morning. Multiple arrests were made on drug, weapons, and warrant charges, with formal charges still pending. Two Fond du Lac women, Felicia Spencer and Chelsea Weiss, are accused of using their jailed roommate's debit and food stamp cards without authorization. Spencer faces nine counts including identity theft, cocaine possession, and credit card theft. Both women's children were taken into protective custody. University of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman was fired by the Board of Regents in a move that surprised observers including Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce. The regents praised Rothman extensively in their own press release while announcing his dismissal. State Senate committee chair Rob Hutton called for hearings on regent confirmations. Rothman told WISN he will not oppose the firing but still does not know why it happened. A garage fire in Oconto destroyed the structure and a nearby pickup truck, with the cause still under investigation. Winchester Fire Department Chief Glenn Matheson, who served 30 years across two departments, died on Tuesday at age 48.
