Werewolf the Podcast: An Angel has Landed! (Episode 238)

·43 min·5 clips
Michael arrives like a legal problem with a halo. The werewolf does not welcome him, Eleanor is dazzled into trembling, and Monty is, as ever, mostly thinking about food and the nearest toilet. The professor, meanwhile, keeps trying to act as though this is an orderly scholarly exchange. It is not. He has set the whole thing in motion by compelling the Archangel Michael into a locked office in the Midlands on a Tuesday morning and then trying to frame the encounter with precise, binding language. The question is meant to catch intent, action, counsel, and future design in the same net, because he wants to know whether Michael seeks to dethrone Lucifer Morningstar and alter Hell's rulership. The room feels the strain at once. The air tilts, the stakes sharpen, and the ordinary business of rugs, shoes, and bodily discomfort keeps rubbing against the apocalypse like a badly behaved table leg. That is the show's favourite trick. It lets cosmic events sit beside irritation, hunger, and etiquette until heaven feels less like abstraction and more like a superior arriving at a disastrous meeting. The professor keeps talking. He has spent years sounding prepared, but this is the moment when performance has to become practice and all the footnotes in the world stop being enough. Michael answers no. The answer is immediate, plain, and somehow more troubling than a lecture. The professor tries to make sense of it and only succeeds in seeing that the question has not solved anything. It has opened a wider and stranger one. Around him, the others react exactly as they should: the werewolf bristles, Eleanor trembles, and Monty remains distractingly hungry. The scene keeps its balance by refusing grandeur when a joke or a curse will do the job better. By the end, the professor is left with a fresh breach in the machinery of his world and no easy way to explain the shape of the damage. That is the point, and also the joke.

As heard by us

An archangel visit turns scholarly certainty into a very expensive mistake.

Werewolf the Podcast leans into a locked-office celestial nuisance, with Archangel Michael dropping into a Midlands office while the werewolf is not happy, Eleanor is overawed, Monty is famished, and the professor answers with procedure, nerve, and a fair amount of…
