Werewolf the Podcast: A Serial (Killer) Drama · Fenrir & Greg

Werewolf the Podcast: Americans and a Werewolf in Faeton. (Halloween Special.)

The special opens with the Professor trying to push a free Kindle gift to anyone still listening. He says Episode 191, The Professor's Pressing Matter, is on Amazon for nothing this week only, and it lands with such deadpan enthusiasm that it feels like a lecture derailed by a pub crawl. Then the plot swerves. The cast arrives at a local that sounds less like a building and more like a clerical mistake, with GPS insisting the place is in Yorkshire, Surrey, Albuquerque, and off the coast of Singapore all at once. Nobody seems properly shocked. That fits, because this world runs on the idea that impossible things are just another nuisance between drinks and insults. Crotchrot shows up first. He is an orc with enough presence to make ordinary threats feel like small talk, and the scene plays his menace against the room's nervous politeness instead of solemn heroics. Then the real problem walks in. A man in what passes for a Minotaur costume turns out to be Slothgut Throatripper, chief of the Sludgehammers, and the room's mood drops from awkward to catastrophic in one breath. Will reacts like a man with several bad ideas and one excellent survival instinct. He stammers, bargains, postures, and then tries to talk his way through a situation that has already grown too large for polite conversation. Jim and Shonda keep pace. Their commentary turns the brinkmanship into comedy, especially when hunger, etiquette, and the possibility of murder all get treated as equally urgent. Fenrir keeps needling from inside Will's head. That inner friction gives the episode its sharpest spark, because the supernatural danger is never separate from the narrator's irritation, embarrassment, and half-formed violence. The scene keeps doubling back on itself. One moment it is about manners, the next about survival, and the next about whether the group should ask for bangers and mash before someone gets flattened. By the close, the special has turned a Halloween detour into a compact comic-dread pileup, with the joke and the threat arriving together and neither of them willing to leave. It is rough around the edges, but the roughness suits a show that likes its horror profane, crowded, and just barely under control.

As heard by us

A Halloween special that pairs a free Kindle offer with a pub-bound supernatural farce.

The episode starts with a free Kindle offer for Episode 191, then veers into a pub stuck in impossible geography before settling into a monster encounter that plays almost insultingly straight.
