Episode 535- Hellraiser: Judgment (2018)

October 6, 2025·1 hr 9 min·6 clips
What the fuck? The worst part is we chose this together.
The hosts start by admitting the choice was mutual. They both know they asked for a bad Hellraiser, and the mood is immediately one of shared regret, mock blame, and delighted disbelief that this sequel exists at all. Judgment becomes the target. They argue that it barely behaves like Hellraiser, because it feels more like a grim police-procedural riff than the dirty, freaky franchise they wanted. CSI comes up fast. One host calls it the worst CSI episode ever made, and the other answers with Law & Order comparisons while admitting they have barely watched CSI at all. Karen Pirie gets a cameo. The conversation wanders into television they actually like, including Karen Pirie returning, plus Law & Order, NYPD Blue, and Line of Duty, which makes the contrast with this movie's deadness even sharper. The movie's commandment gimmick gets mocked. They cannot get over how a franchise once about filthy appetite now hangs its whole structure on a moral lesson, with false idols, a jealous god, and a sermon that feels bolted on by someone chasing another horror trend. Saw is the obvious suspect. They keep circling the idea that the script feels like an aborted Saw project that was forced into Hellraiser clothing, and they treat that as both an explanation and an insult. The best jokes stay concrete. A tiny video of a woman holding up her dog becomes the springboard for a running bit about worship, business, and the ridiculousness of finding divine language next to a dead body. That mortuary riff lands. They spin the phrase "I'm a jealous god" into a perfect note for a corpse photo, then immediately undercut themselves with warnings not to involve your boss, your job, or the actual dead-body industry. The hosts also wander. They jump from sweater vests to car arts to seasonal plans, and that looseness keeps the episode feeling like two friends trapped in a bad movie and using every side topic available to survive it. The ending points forward. They close by promising a trip to A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, which lets the whole thing land as a disgusted but affectionate horror hang rather than a formal review.

As heard by us

A sharp, sideways takedown of Hellraiser: Judgment that keeps finding new ways to mock the movie's checked-out energy.

The episode tears into Hellraiser: Judgment with the kind of irritation that keeps getting funnier the longer it runs. It treats the movie like a bad procedural that slipped on a Cenobite outfit, and keeps coming back to the same gripe: it plays more like an aborted Saw script,…
