Manga Monday Ep 124: Nue's Exorcist / Weird Science Manga & Anime

Yajima recalls his dad being killed by a spirit, setting up his fear and the manga's dark supernatural threat.

Luke cannot make it. The host jokes through the empty chair, then jumps on Nue's Exorcist while the Shonen Jump chapter is still fresh enough to poke. He is not sold. Chapter one, Portrait View of the Sky, feels thin to him, with too few scenes and characters who have not done much yet. The worry shows up early. He keeps coming back to the idea that the series may need a couple more chapters before anyone knows whether there is a real hook under it. He still walks through the chapter. The recap follows the spirit setup and the uneasy reveal around a room that has apparently been waiting for a human. Nue seems harmless. Maybe. That is where the host gets stuck, because the boy clocks her as a spirit while also sensing she might be worse than the one tied to his father's death. The logic starts wobbling. She says she is sealed in the room and cannot leave, but the staging does not quite sell that. Then the tone swerves. Instead of menace, the boy and the spirit girl play video games. That bit works. The host grabs onto Nue as a hardcore gamer who is also somehow a sealed spirit, then keeps laughing at how badly she wrecks Yajima in their first match. First impressions are dead. She is a try-hard, she is winning hard, and the host keeps asking how this makes sense if she has supposedly been stuck there. The confusion is the fun. By the end, he is amused but not convinced. The chapter has weird bits worth chewing on, but the premise still feels undercooked. The signoff goes full house style: Luke jokes, Twitter and Patreon, and room for the duo to come back next week.
