DeOrr Kunz Jr. Part 2

August 28, 2025·1 hr 4 min·5 clips
Sheriff Bowerman reveals why he believes DeOrr's parents are suspects, citing failed polygraphs and inconsistent timelines.
July 9th, 2015, starts the clock. The host returns to Dior Coons Jr.'s disappearance by taking the listener back to the campsite near Lador, Idaho, where his parents, Jessica Mitchell and Vernal Coons Sr., had brought him. The first night sounds uneventful. According to the adults there, Grandpa Bob and Isaac Reinwand were also at the camp, and everyone later described the night as quiet. Then July 10th changes everything. Jessica and Vernal said they left Dior with Grandpa Bob while they went fishing nearby. When they came back, Dior was gone. The recap moves carefully. It asks the listener to keep part one in mind before turning to the investigation's sharper claims. One investigator is direct. Speaking as a civil investigator, he says Jessica and Vernal have serious problems, especially with statements given to the FBI and the task force. He sounds frustrated, but controlled. He says the team is not divided on whether there was a death, only on whether it was intentional homicide or an accident. That is his stated view, not a finding proved by the transcript. If it was an accident, he says other laws may still matter, including not reporting an accident and what happened to the body. He addresses Jessica, Vernal, and Grandpa Bob by name and asks them to stop misleading investigators and the public. His warning about the FBI is blunt: when federal agents ask a question, tell the truth or say you do not know. In his telling, the story keeps moving. When the adults are pressed on inconsistencies, he says their accounts change instead of settling into one reliable version.

As heard by us

A patient, detail-rich look at a disappearance that still refuses a clean answer.

Sarah Turney handles this disappearance case with a steady, careful hand. She lays out the campsite timeline, the 911 call, and the search as it widens, then keeps coming back to the points that do not line up, especially the frustration around repeated changes in the account.
