Changed by Community - Jaime Haselmayer

·40 min·3 clips
Jamie stayed in Cincinnati after a breakup because a young adult ministry was transforming her into who God wanted her to be.
Jamie Haselmayer delivers a weekend message at Vineyard Northwest Church, introducing herself as an associate pastor. She references Community Sunday and apprenticeship communities at the church. Jamie shares her personal story of moving from Central Florida to Cincinnati at age 21 for a relationship that ended within six months. Despite considering moving back, she felt drawn to stay because of her involvement in Cincinnati House Group, the church's young adult ministry started by her husband Luke and his friend Wilson. Through House Group, she experienced the Holy Spirit powerfully, learned to pray and prophesy, and felt part of a wave of young adults making waves in Cincinnati. Jamie argues community is central to Christian life, not just a nice addition. She outlines three ways community changes individuals. First, through sacrificial love, illustrated by John 13:34-35 and her friends caring for her older kids after childbirth. Second, through refinement, using Proverbs 27:17 and the biblical story of Peter being corrected by Paul for distancing from Gentile believers. Third, by carrying burdens, citing Galatians 6:2 and a personal anecdote about cliff-jumping where a friend said 'we are your family.' Jamie reads Acts 2:42-47 about the early church's devotion. She challenges listeners to devote themselves to a community, love sacrificially, embrace refinement, and carry burdens. Jamie acknowledges community can be hard, especially with life demands like her three kids and part-time work, but emphasizes it's for the sake of the world. She ends with a prayer for healing for those hurt by community and openness to change.
