5.4- The Creeping Water

April 12, 2023·25 min·2 clips
Lily accuses Marisol of ignoring the unnatural flooding, suspecting Blooms is behind it like he was with Rudy.
A home stops being a home. Chester is stuck with the kind of adult problem that refuses to come out clean, because a child needs the truth without being handed the whole end of the world. He tells it as gently as he can. Everyone is working to make the place safe again. Nobody quite believes it. Smoke, cracks, and the town's damage keep pushing into the room, so even the practical talk starts to feel like dread checking the weather. Then the past shows up. A story from 1924 pulls cemetery flooding, disinterred bodies, and hair caught in branches into the present with nasty ease. Someone asks if it will happen again. The answer feels less like a forecast than a ritual, because the group turns to the dead for help. Music is the tool. Notes get parsed, corrected, and argued over. One person admits confusion while another hears the message taking shape. Arthur Warren is summoned. He does not bring clean comfort. The fragments sound traditional at first, until the notes bend the answer into something less settled. The room listens harder. What sounds like a statement becomes a question, and that tiny correction changes the weight of the scene. Safety stops being a town problem and lands on each person in the room. The scene stays nicely crooked: grief, folk logic, shaky music theory, civic danger, and dry little corrections all breathing the same smoky air.
