The episode opens with Aunty Pip calling producer Sarah in a state of shock after successfully finding Loretta Crawford. A local tip had redirected her to a nearby town after the address she originally had proved incorrect. She tracks Loretta down through the local Salvation Army shop, where staff agree to call Loretta on her behalf. Aunty Pip describes being on an emotional rollercoaster, alternating between fear and amazement. They arrange to meet the following morning. When Aunty Pip arrives, she finds Loretta as a tall, thin woman sitting at a table with other women. They move to a private back room to speak. Loretta tells Aunty Pip immediately that she had planned to say no and had mentally rehearsed refusing. The only reason she agreed, she explains, is because she could see how hard Aunty Pip had worked to find her. She acknowledges arguing with herself half the night about the decision. When the conversation turns to the day Juanita disappeared, Aunty Pip suggests cutting straight to the chase. Loretta confirms that Juanita had a scheduled appointment at the Carousel Club that day. Critically, the appointment was not with Jim Anderson but with the bar manager. The host notes this distinction and promises to discuss this bar manager in future episodes. Loretta expresses she could never understand why Juanita kept that appointment, saying the woman she knew was not stupid. She recalls that she knew Juanita from her role running a small newspaper at Kings Cross called Now. According to Loretta, Juanita arrived at approximately 10 o'clock, accepted an offer of coffee, and was then collected by the VIP bar manager and taken to the meeting. Loretta's account of the timing has been inconsistent in the past, with previous versions putting the arrival between 10.30 and 11 o'clock, but the host notes this may reflect the passage of 46 years. What has remained consistent in all of Loretta's accounts is that she did not see Juanita leave after the meeting. What Loretta says happened after Juanita went to the meeting has changed multiple times.
