Learn It Right - Line In The Sand (Week 3)

August 19, 2025·37 min·2 clips
Pastor Mark breaks down the Hebrew words for gracious and merciful from Psalm 145, revealing God's heartfelt compassion.
"Who's excited to be here today?" The service starts with that full-room energy, then wanders through men's night, a microphone hiccup, and the easy church banter that keeps people leaning in. After that, the sermon tightens. A workout-room mix-up over a Sam Hunt lyric becomes the example: when you learn something wrong, you start living from the mistake. The host keeps returning to that line. He ties it to Ricky Bobby believing if you ain't first, you're last, because even a dumb phrase can start running a life if nobody checks it. Then he brings the point home to theology. Some people, he says, have built their relationship with God around the idea that God is harsh, cruel, quick-tempered, and conditional. Come on, that changes everything. If that is the picture, the heart keeps trying to get God's attention and earn God's good side. The host pushes back through Jesus. People in Christ, he says, are already on God's good side, so the whole footing changes. Then he slows down and teaches from the Psalms, naming the Lord as gracious, merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. The room still feels alive, with direct address, repeated hooks, and quick turns toward real life. This is doctrine, but it is not cold doctrine. It is meant to pull people out of the exhausting belief that God has to be won over. The close turns into an invitation to get baptized, followed by a prayer of gratitude over the people gathered in the house of God.

As heard by us

A direct reminder that the picture someone carries of God shapes the life they live.

It opens with a comic misheard lyric and a Ricky Bobby nod, then uses both to make a simple point: if someone learns a false picture of God, that distortion tends to shape the way life gets lived.
