Top 5 Comics Podcast - Episode 216 - Giant Size Daredevil, Rifters #1, Gotham By Gaslight the Kryptonian Age #1

·2 hr 1 min·4 clips
The bit starts small. CBS and Tyler keep poking at a catchphrase that only half works, running "Make It So" through restaurant orders, egg questions, and all the places it makes someone sound like a pompous weirdo. Nobody quite makes it land. That is the rhythm for a while: the hosts correct each other, drift, nudge the joke around, and let the pre-comics chatter wobble until the book finally takes over. The Daredevil section has a different weight. Kingpin comes off controlled and cruel, with a taste for theater, because the violence is not just rage. It is a warning meant for someone else. The recap stays a little rough in a good way. A line gets paraphrased, checked against the scene, admitted as close but not exact, and then the hosts get right back into it. Kingpin punishes lying first. After that, the whole description tightens up around pressure and spectacle: a thug pushed through the city as a bloody message, a missing ear folded into the delivery. The Moby Dick quote earns its time because it gives the scene that oversized Kingpin stink. He hurts people, dresses it up with literature, times the whole thing, and seems far too pleased with himself. The city talk gives the scene more bite. Kingpin remembers what the place used to be, sees what it has turned into, and still spots the same ugly machinery under the wine bars and cafes. That is where the comics talk works best. The hosts are not sanding it into a clean review. They are walking through why the sequence lands, why it gets nasty, and how Kingpin's menace reads on the page. Then the show drops back into logistics. Denver Comic-Con comes up near the end, with booth plans, a QR code idea, and some hope that people pass along what they saw. A recording joke gets swatted down almost as soon as it appears. One host tries to make a bit out of whether anyone pressed record, the other pokes holes in it, and suddenly they are arguing over whether the joke was ever alive. Daredevil seems to have caused extra trouble too. The close admits some recording or battery frustration, shrugs at the mess, and signs off with the same loose familiarity that opened the episode.
