Ask Eric Anything! - The WDW News Today Podcast: Episode 75

·1 hr 21 min·5 clips
Eric calls the closure of A Great Movie Ride and Universe of Energy a turning point for Walt Disney World.
Eric opens by greeting listeners and explaining that Tom is out on an unexpected trip. He notes that Tom will be back on Wednesday, even though the show is going out on Tuesday. Eric says he has just gotten back from being out of town and landed at 5:05 a.m. that morning. Katie is on hand in her production area. The Wigs are in the live chat. Eric explains that the Wigs are WWNT Interglobe Society members at the $7-and-up Patreon level, so they can join live when these podcasts are recorded. The episode is set up as an AMA, so the questions come from the room. Eric also plugs Detour WWNT, which is set for next Monday, a week from today, right after Destination D23. He invites people to come to the studio for tours all day. He says there will also be a live recording of WDW News Today, the show with Tom. Tom will be giving guided tours in four different sessions. The museum is being reimagined as part of the event. From there the conversation moves into food, starting with Taco John's and the usual potato ole chatter. The talk then turns to live streams in the parks and how they affect the audience. Eric says live streaming has been one of the fastest ways he has ever seen the channel add subscribers. He recalls live streams that brought in hundreds of new subscribers at a time. He also says that the format can be hard to manage and hard to keep fresh. In his view, it gets redundant if someone does it all the time, and you never know quite when a given video will land. The episode closes with a Carousel Products plug for Gertie, magnets, and shirts, plus a reminder to check the shop before stock gets capped, and Eric signs off the way he likes to.

As heard by us

A loose AMA where show logistics and subscriber strategy take center stage.

This episode stays close to the show's own machinery: Tom is away after an unexpected trip, Eric is back from a 5:05 a.m. landing, Katie is in production, and the Wigs are in the live chat for an AMA.
