Andy hears a distinct gobble and drumming, signaling the turkey is closing in for a shot on April Fool's Day.
The cold open covers familiar ground. There are calling tips, old-pro advice about turkeys dodging the morning sun, some rosemary-and-garlic cooking talk, and a little property work for birds. Then the hunt tightens up. The main stretch turns into a careful road-and-terrain story where every creek crossing and food plot edge matters. Three gobblers fire off. One sits near the northwest corner of the rectangle, one is farther west across Creek number two, and one is north and west across Creek number one. From the hill, the hunter can see the straight line through open ground. It looks tempting, and it could wreck the whole morning. So he backs out. That small retreat is the point of the hunt, really. Pretty plans do not mean much while birds are still on the roost. He works the main road south, heads west, crosses Creek number two where it hits the road, and starts toward the second food plot. He is trying to slide between the first and second birds while staying on the same side of the creek as the gobbler in the northwest corner. The birds gobble for a while. Then daylight builds, they shut up, and the move gets a lot less comfortable. Nothing feels hurried here. The tension comes from terrain, timing, and that little warning in the back of every turkey hunter's head: one careless push through open ground can blow up the setup. The takeaway is tucked into the route itself. Hear the birds, read the ground, and respect the roost more than the shortcut.

As heard by us

A steady turkey hunt story where terrain, timing, and restraint do the work.

Turkey talk drives the episode: calling tips, timing, creek lines, and food plots all get their due. The map-reading is the best stretch, because every gobble changes the next move and patience starts to matter more than bravado.
