The Storage Papers · Jeremy Enfinger

Two Trolley Solution

February 4, 2025·28 min·2 clips
Erica Daniels learns she can save a dying bunny by swapping it with a healthy duplicate from another reality.
The episode opens with Jeremy weighing whether to share a host's identity with Anderson, knowing all hosts have died but that each death brings the entity closer to his son Chris. He calls Anderson, who agrees to take the person into protective custody. Jeremy then stumbles across another paper: a Hydra-catalogued collection of Erica Daniels' childhood journals beginning at day four. In the earliest entry, Erica describes a Dr. Connors who keeps telling her to change her thinking and is introducing her to philosophy, ethics, and morality through Socratic sessions. By day eight, Connors has presented the trolley problem — five people versus one child — as a real ethical dilemma and asked what Erica would do. She wrestles with whether inaction is equivalent to killing, whether unknowable future consequences change the moral weight of a choice, and who designed such a cruel thought experiment. By day eleven, Connors demonstrates Erica's ability: he tells her a sick bunny can be saved if she imagines a healthy counterpart from another dimension, and the bunny recovers. On day 40, Connors reveals the truth: she was not healing animals or changing objects. She was swapping them with counterparts from parallel dimensions, meaning the original sick bunny still died. He introduces the term dimensional altar and suggests that with enough precision, she could save both versions by swapping only part of an organism. By day 366, exactly one year in, Connors drives Erica blindfolded to a city and points her at a diner where he says a mass killer is hiding among ordinary people. Unable to identify the individual threat, Erica walks through the diner altering the neural pathways and brain chemistry of multiple people by swapping them with dimensional counterparts. From the van, she and Connors watch the resulting massacre — a child killing his mother, a waitress wielding knives. Erica explains to Connors that when you cannot isolate the threat, you destroy the whole train. Jeremy, horrified, concludes Malcolm almost certainly recruited Erica and reflects on how much danger that represents. He then receives what he believes is a psychic transmission — a voice saying it is repaying him for help fighting monsters in its dimension — and writes down a code that resolves into a map address and Brianne's phone number. He races to the address, finds Brianne killing a man, and begs her to stop. Brianne insists it has to happen and tells Jeremy to leave so he has no part in it. Jeremy checks the man's ID and recognizes the address also belongs to Erica Daniels — the victim is her brother, an innocent man. Anderson had already taken Erica into custody, a fact Brianne would have known if she had not gone silent.

As heard by us

Archive horror with a procedural spine, and a final reveal that bites.

The Storage Papers keeps two pressures moving at once here: Jeremy's lead on a possible host identity, and the Hydra thread that keeps dragging the case toward Chris.
