Catching up with Walt: Black Panther 2's original script, how to improve digital comics, and Cyclops was right

Todd McFarlane stood with one foot on the table for an entire hour at Comic Con, dropping nothing but gems.

It starts mid-cook. The opener feels like someone pulled up a chair before the show fully decided it was a show: time check, recording check, articles waiting nearby. Walt has comics stacked up, and that pile becomes the first doorway because nobody bothers pretending two months of catch-up is some tidy reading plan. The talk wanders, but in a useful way. Warmup chatter keeps finding its way back to how comics get read, bought, remembered, and ignored when life gets in the way. Then Todd McFarlane barges in by way of Spawn. The host tries to pin down whether McFarlane is still writing or co-writing it, and the toy money gets the quick side-eye it deserves. From there, it turns into comics-fan trivia: what number is Spawn on now, how close did Walt get, and how does that run stack up against Savage Dragon? Image history takes over next. The host and Walt work through the seven founders, pulling up Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, Pataccio, Jim Valentino, Eric Larson, and Todd McFarlane while trying to catch the missing name. Nobody shifts into lecture mode. They are just remembering in public, correcting each other, laughing at the blanks, and still wanting the list right. Valentino becomes the sticky one. By the end, after the supporter roll call and the thanks for anyone still hanging around, the episode lands right where it started: casual, specific, a little messy, and very much comics people talking to comics people.
