Only At The Masters: Gnomes, Tiger Updates, And Other Traditions

April 7, 2026·28 min·2 clips
The Masters gnome this year has a fully functioning umbrella, sparking a frenzy among fans willing to pay thousands for a chance to get one.
Masters Week gets treated like a holiday. The host opens in full fan mode, putting Augusta National next to the biggest events in sports while still clocking reports of people paying $20,000, $30,000, and $40,000 for four-day grounds passes. The gnome gets its time, too. Somehow a tiny umbrella belongs in the same conversation as the green jacket and Jim Nance's Hello Friends, which feels exactly right for the Masters. Then Ron takes over the story. The host credits him, and CJ behind him, for making a past trip to Augusta happen at all. The gratitude does not stay neat for long. Once favorite traditions come up, the easy answer gets pushed aside for the running joke that Ron gets told to leave every time. Ron pushes back right away. The story turns into a funny little trial about who actually got kicked out, who was standing too close to trouble, and who needs to finish the story properly. The host keeps poking him. Ron supposedly went back through the gates, risked more trouble, and helped clear things up with Augusta after what the group treats as a misunderstanding. Augusta gets a fair shake. The host says the people there were reasonable once they understood what happened. Ron gets roasted and thanked in the same breath. He is the guy who scared his friend half to death, dropped him to his lowest low, then gave him the joy of finding out about the Masters trip again. The football comparison works. Getting the trip back feels like a touchdown being overturned, except the host is still carrying the stress. Even John Daly could not fix the mood. The host says he was too rattled to care about meeting Daly, which says plenty. The ending wanders into older sports memory. A John Wooden thread brings in life lessons, the Pyramid of Success, Bill Walton apparently keeping it in his wallet, and the host's signed pyramid from a letter he wrote in the 90s. That last turn fits. Under the gnome jokes, gate trouble, and Ron's Augusta lore, the episode is really about why sports objects and stories stick to people.

As heard by us

A Masters Week hangout that blends Augusta reverence, running jokes, and a strong Ron story.

The episode treats Masters Week like a holiday, and that framing gives the conversation its charge. Augusta rituals, Jim Nantz, the green jacket, the steep four-day grounds passes, and the memory of getting inside the gates all get room to breathe.
