Browns Legend Eric Metcalf Tells Ricky Cobb ‘Put Me In The Front Office'

April 9, 2026·23 min·2 clips
Eric Metcalf says he'd go for 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in today's NFL.
Eric Metcalf is serious about wanting a Browns role. When Ricky Cobb brings up the all-caps tweet about joining the organization in a front office capacity, Metcalf does not laugh it off. He says he wants to be part of the organization and help however he can. This is not just old-player nostalgia. Metcalf says he goes back for every home game, does local TV there, and still keeps up with what is happening around the team. Cobb then lays out the quarterback picture: Shador Sanders, Dylan Gabriel, and the possible 2026 return of Deshaun Watson are all part of the Cleveland conversation. Metcalf starts with the defense. He thinks that group is already in place, which pushes the problem back to the offense. The quarterback has to get settled. The line has to hold up. Cleveland added a bunch of guys in free agency, but Metcalf keeps coming back to depth, because injuries have hit the Browns before and a roster plan only works if it survives the season. Then he asks for another receiver. Not another small speed guy, either. He wants a bigger go-getter who can run and give the offense a different kind of answer. The running backs are already part of the setup. Put those pieces around the quarterback, Metcalf says, and life gets easier no matter who takes the snaps. Cobb also frames Metcalf as a player born too early. Metcalf says he would have loved today's McVay and Shanahan offenses, where a player like him could move around and be used in a bunch of ways. Cobb says Metcalf could have gone for 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving in today's game, and Metcalf does not argue with it. The clip closes with Cobb telling Cleveland to call him. Things were good when Eric Metcalf was there. Maybe reconnecting with him would not hurt.
