Investigation :: Division

September 4, 2018·23 min·2 clips
A team lands on Caracas, a poor system targeted by the Alliance, to investigate a missing clone named Evers.
The episode opens on a colony called Caracas, described as one of the poorest systems in the Collective, targeted unsuccessfully by the Alliance for a land grab. Two investigators — one named Richard — assess the local population of four or five clones and debate whether to risk mixing with them. Richard wants to access Alliance servers but lacks the right parts for a secure link, leading to a tense split. Meanwhile, Diana is recovered from a moon where her life support had nearly failed. She recounts a crash in fragmented, guilty terms: a companion told her to run, a creature called a Jeffrey killed him, and she kept repeating that she just ran. The group tries to comfort her but she resists. Back with the larger group, a character presents the idea of uniting their secret clone network to formally break away from the Collective, arguing that clones make up a massive segment of the population who are farmed, worked, and killed without choice. Others push back, calling it a dream and too dangerous. The conversation is interrupted when Diana launches a fierce attack on Nora — a non-clone companion — accusing her of being able to choose her identity and fly away while clones are stuck doing what they're told. The confrontation escalates until another character defends Nora, listing sacrifices she has made for Diana and Charles. Diana is shut down but the rift remains. On a different thread, Richard — posing as an official — questions the local clone population about sightings of a stray Nora unit. He speaks with clones at what appears to be a small outpost. Two clones referred to as the twins recall a suspicious boy who once bought a signal generator tuned to a special Nora frequency at a parts shop. The boy used to frequent the area but has since vanished. Richard departs with this new lead. Back on the ship, another character spots that Richard is connecting a transponder incorrectly and points out the error, which Richard grudgingly accepts. The episode closes with the reveal that there is an abandoned science facility on the far side of the planet that Evers herself was responsible for shutting down, positioning it as the next destination for the investigation.
