An investigator asks for help identifying a man whose photos date back to the late 1800s, linked to unsolved murders.

The episode opens in an interrogation room where a detective presents a witness with photographs matching a single man across murders and disappearances dating to the late 1800s, confirmed by facial recognition at 99.7% accuracy. Theories include a multigenerational family legacy, an elaborate cult, or extreme makeup. The detective notes the man evades all attempts to bring him in and that several people who spoke with him have since gone missing. He offers money, immunity, and witness protection to the witness in exchange for cooperation. The frame narrative resumes with the night cleaner in an unusually good mood after achieving a personal dartboard record. He muses about the loneliness of his work and expresses gratitude for his companion's company. He notices the companion spoke to a suspicious man in a suit on the way out of the bar and warns about 'alphabet boys' running interrogations on bar patrons. He launches into a story about a Baptist pastor who drives murder suspect Matthew to the basement of an abandoned church — without police authorization. Matthew quickly recognizes the pastor as someone with antisocial personality disorder matching his own, predicting the pastor's every tactical move during the confrontation. The pastor confirms the diagnosis and offers brandy as their interaction transitions to an intellectual contest. Matthew predicts the pastor will try to manipulate rather than beat him, and both men riff on the nature of ASPD as orderly rather than disordered. The pastor eventually reveals his true motive: he runs an operation in which he extracts signed confessions from other ASPD individuals, who then plead insanity and become freelance criminal consultants for law enforcement — not out of civic duty but for the thrill of controlling others like themselves. Matthew engages with the pitch before abruptly announcing he plans to cut out the pastor's tongue. The night cleaner closes the season finale by noting this story particularly disturbed him because losing his tongue would end his ability to share tales, and obliquely worrying about whether their unknown employers silence workers who talk too much.
