Back to the Future Part II ''1989'' film

October 20, 2025·1 hr·25 clips
Marcelo starts with the podcast's usual writerly angle and hands the recap over to Dean. Back to the Future Part 2 is the target, and the episode gets right to the 1989 film without much polite buildup. The story starts on Saturday, October 26, 1985. Marty is outside his house, Jennifer appears, and then Doc rolls up in the DeLorean with bad news about Marty and Jennifer's kids. That bad news becomes the whole engine of the recap, because the timeline is already wobbling and the movie wants them back in the car immediately. Marty warns Doc to back up because the DeLorean will never hit 88 miles per hour in time. Dean keeps the discussion moving through the setup while Marcelo keeps coming back to what each beat is doing mechanically. Once the pair get into the future mess, the show follows the chain reaction back through 2015 and then back again toward 1955. Marty Jr. walking past and Biff freaking out lands as one of those neat little dominoes the movie is built on. The newspaper change from Marty Jr. being arrested to the gang being arrested gets a proper nod because it is the clearest example of the sequel rewriting itself on the fly. The hoverboard chase gets called out as a really cool chase sequence, and the hosts sound happiest when the movie is just firing on that kind of visual nonsense. Jennifer is next. The future cops, with their tight uniforms, get a weird little side-eye because the detail is so specific that it practically asks for a comment. The thumbprint ID is another fun future gag, and the show follows the logic far enough to point out that Jennifer's older self would obviously still match. That leads to the Hill Valley address reveal and the decision to get her home before she wakes up confused as hell. Doc's reaction to the sports almanac sharpens the conversation, because he does not want it used for financial gain and pushes hard against the temptation. Marcelo pushes back on that self-righteousness and treats the moral posture as a little rich. Biff overhearing the time-machine conversation draws the same skeptical reaction, because he just happens to be lurking in a back alley at exactly the wrong moment. The episode does not hide its amusement at that coincidence, and neither host pretends the movie is above a little dumb luck. Dean closes with trivia about the tunnel used on the hoverboard, which he notes is the same tunnel used in Who Framed Roger Rabbit on the way to Toontown.
