#531: Potential

June 12, 2025·32 min·1 clip
Your value isn't determined by what you achieve—it's about the thrill of becoming.
Brooke Castillo opens from Lake Tahoe. She says she is in her new home, has spent the last 10 days there with family, and calls it the best place she has ever lived. The house feels full and lively: Christian is there with his girlfriend, Connor is there with his girlfriend, and the adopted kids, borrowed kids, and bonus kids are all part of the scene. She describes the weather as insanely gorgeous and the setting as pure heaven, with forest, golf, pickleball, a beautiful restaurant, a beautiful lake, and endless hiking nearby. From there, she shifts to potential. Her point is that people have more capacity than they use, but only some of it becomes real because it depends on desire, effort, and a willingness to practice. Not every capability gets pursued. She says there are many things a person could succeed at, from studying law to learning piano to learning how to skydive, and that possibility alone does not make any of it come alive. Desire matters. She talks about want matches: when potential meets desire, a person can start exploring true potential and see what they are capable of. Once someone starts practicing and seeing what they could be, Brooke says they begin to build resilience, learn how to get past discomfort, and develop the ability to be extraordinary. That takes training. She argues that most ordinary people are not trained to be resilient long enough for extraordinary success, and that is why so many never reach the edge of what they could do. The work is brave. She keeps pressing the listener to explore potential, capacity, and capability, and to show up in a way that may feel exposed, because the world needs people to bring as much of themselves as they can. She says if every person were brave enough to express their potential, we would evolve faster and create more delight, even though discomfort, pain, and negativity would still be there. She ends by saying she will talk about her new program next time and wishing listeners a beautiful summer before signing off.
