·36 min·1 clip

He suddenly hit them with a wave of fear and all of a sudden they realized—'What if we don't know anything about these guys?'

Mike Shea of Sly Flourish walks through prep for Tales of the Valiant campaign set in Dragon Empire. Previous session was entirely roleplay (no combat, no exploration) where party met what seemed to be an Ermongli governor NPC seeking help smuggling his son to Nuria Natal. Twist: governor revealed as Parsis the Hidden, one of nine Morza dragons ruling empire. Key mechanics: fear saves during reveal, party realization they take all risk in arrangement, player insight that NPC could be the dragon they suspected. Party now tasked with smuggling half-dragon through Shadow Roads in exchange for dragon-slaying weapon. Three players absent from previous session will discover new political dimension today. Prep focuses on designing interesting scenes and encounters for Shadow Road journey (5 scenes planned). Character advancement review shows players excited about new tier 3 abilities (grappling combos, magical trap disarming, reincarnation mechanics).
