Repentance Is Taking Care of Your Soul

·27 min·1 clip
"What floor do you want to get off at?" turns addiction into an urgent decision point.
Jeff opens with Advent in view and Christmas coming up fast. He says repentance has a bad reputation because people often hear it as a grim scolding. He pushes against that reading and argues that repentance belongs inside the gospel and the whole story of salvation history. For him, repentance is a good thing. It is part of the soul’s refreshment before the King comes. He defines it as changing the mind, changing the attitude, and changing what one does. He says the change is not cosmetic. It is a real reorientation of life toward Jesus. Forgiveness is part of that movement. So is relief. So is the experience of being made new. Jeff keeps returning to the idea of refreshment because he wants the listener to hear repentance as life-giving rather than crushing. He also says the future can feel light and hopeful again. To make the point concrete, he turns to the prodigal son in Luke 15. The son wastes his inheritance in a far country. He ends up among pigs after losing everything. Then comes the turn. He comes to his senses and realizes that even life as a servant at home would be better than life in the hog pen. Jeff treats that moment as repentance in its raw form. The son reorients himself toward his father and heads back home. Jeff notes that the father meets him on the way back. He promises to continue with Isaiah after the break. The episode closes with prayer for conviction, the will to repent, help avoiding the near occasion of sin, and the power of the Holy Spirit.
