James Offers Guidance to Young Leaders

·33 min·2 clips
James warns, “not many of you should become teachers,” because the tongue is “a fire” and “a restless evil.”
Jeff Cavins opens by treating leadership as something serious. He speaks to young people starting apostolates and ministries and asks where their wisdom will come from. Content alone is not the issue. The real question is whether a leader knows how to lead. He warns that too much time on screens can train people to listen to the crowd. That habit can make the broad way feel more important than discernment. He tells listeners to avoid the broad way on the internet. Instead, he points them to the Bible, prayer, praying scripture, the catechism, and the lives of the saints. Wisdom, in his telling, starts with asking God for it. It also has to be sought in the right places. He then uses James as a guide for young leaders. The first lesson is humility. The second is accountability. He cites Proverbs 3 to stress that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. For Cavins, humble leaders are the ones who can actually learn. They know who they are before God. They also know who they are within the body of Christ. Pride, he says, is self-focus turned inward on its own wisdom, goals, and PR. That kind of leadership is not fit for the kingdom of God, so he presses submit yourselves to God, resist the devil, draw near, and humble yourselves before the Lord. He ends in prayer, asking Jesus to make his listeners leaders who submit their will, ideas, future, time, energy, and resources to him.

A sober reminder that leadership starts with humility, not self-focus.

Jeff Cavins treats leadership as a spiritual test, not a branding exercise, and the message lands most clearly with young people starting ministries and apostolates. The question he keeps pressing is simple: where does wisdom come from?
