The Act Out - S02E01 - Emily Grefer

·41 min·3 clips
Emily Griefer: one of the best writers in DFW with a goal to write for Late Night.
The episode opens with a network welcome from ImprovTX and a reminder about the other shows in the feed. Ducky then sets up *The Act Out* as a place where comedians talk about how stories were made. Emily Griefer is introduced with a lot of praise. Ducky calls her one of the best writers in DFW. He says she is always working on new material. He also says she wants to write for Late Night. Emily comes in relaxed and ready to talk. Ducky asks how long she has been in comedy. She says it will be five years in February. She laughs that it feels incredibly long, even though she still loves it. The conversation moves into how comics handle the room when the mic is on. They talk about tipping and the little bit of control a comic has once the crowd is listening. Ducky asks about the weirdest thing Emily has seen onstage. She says audience members have tried to come up after a set and act like they need to say something. She makes clear it is not violent. When the topic turns to her own sets, she says men will hit on her and heckle her at the same time. She describes whistles from the crowd when she walks onstage. She jokes that she cannot whistle back, which makes the whole thing even stranger. She says the compliments about her looks throw the room off and pull attention away from the jokes. The talk lands on a bizarre interruption about redlining before the episode closes out with ImprovTX plugs and links to the network shows.
