The IKKIVI Podcast: Exploring Fashion, Culture and Values · Nivi Murthy

S3E15: Reflecting on 9 Years of IKKIVI: Raw Moments & Real Talk

·29 min·1 clip
Nivi Moorthy says fashion overstock is “pre-consumer use” waste that can end up in landfills or third-world countries.
Nine years make this personal. Nivi Moorthy opens the anniversary episode alone, calling IKKIVI a journey through challenge, learning, emotion, joy, and fulfillment. The room feels close. There is no guest this time, just Nivi returning to the brand's earliest questions and the values that kept it going. The story begins in 2015, when sustainable and ethical fashion still needed basic explanation, especially as fast fashion retailers were arriving in India. Awareness becomes the first job. After watching The True Cost, she starts asking who makes the clothes and why those lives are so easy to ignore. That concern is the pulse of the episode. She keeps using words like care, protection, and respect, the same words she would use for family or friends. Buying clothes starts to feel less simple. Conscious consumption is not treated as a better label choice. Once someone knows where a product comes from, that changes how they keep it, care for it, reuse it, or repurpose it. Nivi does not polish the business story too much. Her partner left for an MBA in the US, and from 2017 onward she had to continue alone. Then Rhea Gupte enters the story as the creative director who helped shape IKKIVI's brand language in the next phase. The episode stays soft but clear-eyed. Fashion becomes a way to ask whether creative work can stay responsible. By the end, Nivi is still reaching outward, inviting young businesses and young brands to reach out. The anniversary feels less like a victory lap than an unfinished conversation.
