S3E14: The Energy of Colour and Exploring Art as a Celebration of Life | Priyanka Thaker

·43 min·2 clips
Priyanka argues that color is “70%” of human experience and can change how a place feels instantly.
Color comes first. Priyanka talks about it less as a palette and more as something picked up through homes, habits, senses, and stories. Her world is maximalist, and when people notice the color in her house, she treats that as part of the point. Art, for her, starts with trying to understand herself. She did things on her own, pushed back, and somehow that stubbornness became useful. The family plan was clear enough: her brother would become a doctor, she would become a dentist or pharmacist, and marriage and children would finish the picture. Pharmacy school gave her time, not purpose. Reshuffling eventually opened a door toward what she wanted. Her unhappiness did some of the talking. Once her parents saw a happy child turning visibly unhappy, the argument began to shift. The funny part, and she knows it, is that the same disciplined, religious, middle-class family that resisted art had also filled her childhood with making. Dance, soft toys, knitting, stitching, and a classical instrument all left their marks. She jokes that the fault was theirs. They let her learn, and all that learning led her toward art. What began playfully became a practice, with color always leading the way. The host ends on gratitude, process, and the pleasure of seeing a project become finished work.
