The Hive Collective Podcast: Shifting Power in Nonprofits · Beth Ellen Holimon

Leadership from Young Feminists: Shagun Sethi and Jasmine Anouna

·56 min·3 clips
Shagun says, “I don’t know” can be “revolutionary,” and trust often starts with being given low-stakes responsibility.
Beth Ellen Holliman opens with power and places the conversation inside The Hive Collective's work with nonprofits that want their values to show up in how they run. Shagun Sethi brings the organization side of the question. Her background in sociology, gender, women's leadership, mentorship, and development keeps the leadership talk tied to real workplaces. Jasmine Anuna brings The Bloom and challenges the neat story people sometimes tell about social impact. The conversation stays grounded. Flat organizations are not treated as automatically better. Different organizations may need different ways to make decisions, and Jasmine is wary of structures that sound beautiful on paper but wobble once people have to live inside them. The Bloom is her example. Not being a nonprofit, she argues, does not mean chasing profit first or dropping purpose. She wants an organization that can last financially, grow without losing its center, and bring public sector and private sector people into a better story. The label is not the point. The question is whether the structure, the money, and the relationships actually match the work. Nonprofit status does not make an organization good by itself. The episode lands back on shared power, with the reminder that power sharing only counts when everyone involved can feel it.
