After calling 911 for her dead neighbor, she watches him answer the door with vacant, yellow eyes.
Nicole introduces the show with reference points—Magnus Archives, No Sleep Podcast—and flags a content warning for disturbing material. The episode presents The Body Is a Temple, written by Connor Bushoven. The unnamed narrator—a recent graduate desperate for affordable housing—finds a handwritten laundromat notice for a zero-deposit, cash-only apartment at 46 Thurston Place. The building is dilapidated and hard to find, the superintendent a curt elderly woman who takes $600 cash and leaves. The apartment is small and filthy but within budget. On the first night, the narrator is woken by scratching from an air vent, and watches a glistening, sinewy tendril rise from it before retreating. Convinced it was a dream, the narrator moves in properly. She introduces herself to her sole neighbor, Greg Halbeck in 1A—a reclusive man in a Rutgers sweater who notes she is the first new resident in nearly a year. Weeks later, Greg stops receiving deliveries and does not answer. Looking through his window, the narrator finds him motionless on the floor with a blood pool under his head. When police arrive, Greg answers the door but is visibly wrong—swollen, yellow-eyed, and vacant. The officer dismisses the situation and quietly tells the narrator to leave for a while. She does, visiting her father, but returns Sunday night. The nightmares intensify, involving pulsating masses of tissue and color. The walls begin leaking a rust-colored fluid that the narrator can neither stop nor reach the superintendent about. The leaks multiply, the walls sag and bulge as if breathing. After receiving a layoff notification, the narrator throws her laptop at the wall—it sinks in. Tearing the hole wider, she finds a floor-to-ceiling mass of living tissue inside the walls: nerves, veins, sinew, faces including Greg's. The entity communicates in murmurs and extends tentacles. She falls into it and her consciousness is absorbed. The final narration reveals the opening perspective was hers all along—now part of the building.
