Snowboarding in Argentina Turned Into an Unexpected Rom-Com | Vicky Barauna

Travel stories that shaped me as a person
Yiping Bao opens the show by talking about how a 17-hour move from Taiwan to the UK led him to start a podcast built around travel conversations. He says the best part of that move has been the people he has met along the way. He introduces Vicky as someone he studied with in Nottingham and remembers student nights out at Ocean and St. Patrick's Day celebrations with friends. Vicky says she is a journalist, though lately she has spent more time writing than anything else. That has included movie scripts and screenwriting courses, which have become both a hobby and a way to stay off TikTok. She wants more time for reading and writing, especially fiction. When asked for a funny travel story, she starts with Bariloche, Argentina. She calls it one of the most beautiful places she has ever been to, especially in winter, when the mountain views feel even sharper. She likes being in the mountains while doing something active. Snowboarding was new to her, but she thought her ice-skating background would help. It did, at first. Stopping was the hard part. When she felt she might crash into someone or something, she sometimes just threw herself down instead. Then she lost her direction completely. Her gear got caught with another person's gear, and the two of them ended up stuck together in a way that felt straight out of a rom-com. She apologizes and says it was her first time snowboarding. The story then shifts to another trip that went sideways in a different way. Flight plans changed, so they had to return later to the UK. The delay gave them time to explore Gibraltar, see dolphins, see monkeys, go hiking, and turn the trip into something memorable all over again.

A first-time snowboarding mishap in Bariloche becomes a funny travel story.

Vicky tells a first-time snowboarding story from Bariloche, Argentina that starts with confidence, slides into trouble with braking, and ends in an awkward tangle with another person on the mountain. It fits Funny Travel Stories well.
