Living Kringle - Living Single S1E15 [Patreon Teaser]

December 24, 2025·23 min·2 clips
Why is Sinclair the only one trying to hold onto the holiday spirit while her friends all become scrooges?
This is a Patreon teaser episode in which the Friend Zone hosts — Francesca, Dustin, and Asante — recap Living Single Season 1 Episode 15, titled Living Kringle, which they are watching as part of a holiday Black TV series. The episode's premise is that Sinclair is the only person invested in Christmas: Regine is booking a flight to Aruba to avoid her family, Maxine skips a date to work a case, Khadijah heads to the magazine office, Overton handles maintenance calls about fruitcake blocking toilets, and Kyle distributes Kwanzaa gifts with mud cloth wrapping. The hosts discuss the fruitcake subplot and universally dismiss fruitcake as unappetising. They highlight the ongoing comic rivalry between Max and Kyle as one of the best antagonist duos in sitcom history, comparing them to Martin and Pam and Fred Sanford and Aunt Esther. Kyle's Kwanzaa gifts and Regine's comment that she likes Kwanzaa because it comes after Christmas and she can get gifts at 50 cents on the dollar are noted as highlights. The musical Christmas cards Sinclair gives out provoke nostalgia, including a riff on how the battery always seemed to be dying in store greeting cards. The hosts particularly enjoy the scene where the group starts singing 'Winter Wonderland' together, Regine's emotional reaction to Sinclair's convertible Corvette toy gift, and Sinclair's bar scenes where she says the extent of her bar knowledge is 'keep them coming.' The Sinclair note subplot — in which she writes a heartfelt goodbye asking her friends not to find her, then draws a map on the back — gets a strong reaction from all three hosts. Kim Coles is praised as underrated, with a reference to her standup work including a routine about being a Black cheerleader on Comic View. Erica Alexander's post-show work is discussed at length: her Maxine Shaw pipeline for Black women lawyers, her panels on character development, the origin of Maxine's signature braids as her own audition choice, and her recent acting work in American Fiction and the Wu-Tang Hulu series. Dustin shares that he binged all of Living Single during a difficult mental health summer and found it landed differently as an adult New Yorker who could recognise the Brooklyn sets. The episode closes with the hosts suggesting a future themed month of Hawaii episodes across Black sitcoms and wishing listeners a happy holiday.
