Trouble Finishing in Alaska

·32 min·5 clips
The ad read will not leave quietly. RocketMoney loops through savings, subscriptions, divorce jokes, and dashboard promises until it feels like part of the same unruly room as the show. Then the tour talk lurches in. The group treats the recording as the final show of the 2025 fun run, worn out enough to laugh at its own collapse. Andy is the first loose thread. The chatter has that battered road rhythm where bits come back half-remembered, get corrected later, and need someone else to fill in the missing setup. Bob brings the actual wreckage. He pulls a volunteer named John onstage after hearing he is a Marine, then drops him into a bongo-style audience stunt. The premise is already trouble. A partner lies across his lap while salsa music plays, and the bit is supposed to stay goofy and rhythmic. It does not. John snaps open a switchblade, cuts off underwear, and turns a dumb crowd bit into a security problem in one move. The room wakes up fast. Security rushes him, the crowd reacts, and Bob tries to rewind the whole thing as if rewinding could make it normal. The woman says she is okay. Starting over is the second bad decision, because the restarted bit gets more invasive and harder to control. Security comes back harder. The story keeps circling the practical mess: 400 people packed in, the stage blocked, the narrator stuck away from the front, and everyone suddenly trying to figure out who is responsible. The prize is just a shirt. That detail makes the disaster feel meaner and stranger, because the stakes are tiny until they are not. The ending wanders back to craft: Andy's punchlines, missing setups, Patreon callbacks, Frank Zappa crumbs, and a line about not finishing, all dumped together like road notes nobody bothered to clean up.

As heard by us

A salsa-stage bongo stunt with a switchblade and baby oil becomes a rough little study in comic escalation.

The Doug Stanhope Podcast uses this single-episode review to track the last show of a 2025 fun run, where Bob pulls John, a Marine, into a salsa-music bit built around turning a woman into the bongos.
